NEW CLASS! “THE LATIN – AMERICAN SONGBOOK” – AT LA PENA CULTURAL CENTER

I am thrilled to announce a new class which starts this coming Monday at La Pena in Berkeley. I taught, quite successfully this same class at The Jazz School for about 6 years. It was called “MODERN APPROACH TO LATIN STANDARDS” and that is exactly what it was, focusing on the singers this course unique to the Bay Area brought the students music from all over Latin America from folk to pop, old and new, with a twist, modernizing the classics and fusing the rhythms into a savory melting pot of rhythms and melodies.
With a new title and at a new venue, this class is now taught by two teachers, I will be joined by the great bassist from Peru, David Pinto, music director and arranger as well as bass player for Susana Baca. It is indeed a fabulous opportunity for those who appreciate Latin music. The class has become an “ensemble class” for both singers and all instruments.
This first period is full! but it is an on going class and the next course will start Monday, April 14th.
Anyone interested can contact me at: orinokia@mariamarquez.com.
